모든 예술은 작가의 행위와 그 상황의 표현이다. 그 중 시각적 제스처를 통하여 감성이나 정서적 메시지를 전달하는 것이 미술이다. 서로 다른 시기와 각기 다른 문화 속에서도 작가들은 그들 시대의 고뇌를 작품 제작을 통하여 전달하였다. 이러한 작품을 해석하며 의미를 찾는 데는 작가의 메시지와 감상자와의 의사소통이 필요하다. 현대미술에 있어 추상작품은 더욱 그러하다. 이에 본인은 이러한 현 상황의 개념적인 고찰을 사상과 철학으로 이론화하여 작품을 통해 표현하고자 하였다. 오늘날의 현대산업사회는 문명의 이기들로 가득 찬 도시적 삶에 터전을 두고 있다. 현대문명의 발달로 인해 비인간화, 극단적 개인주의, 소외감 그리고 다양한 삶 속에 오는 부재된 정신성의 문제가 야기되지만 이런 환경에서도 우리는 새로운 대안을 찾고 적응해 간다. 우리가 현대사회를 살며 선택할 입장은 무엇인가? 본인의 작품은 문명의 이기와 도시적 편린들을 새롭고 아름다운 창조물로 규정하고 이곳에서 안식을 느끼며 살아가는 현대인의 감성인 도회적 서정을 이야기하려 한다. 그리고 현대기술문명사회를 규정하는 적절한 상징물인 금속에 의해 도회적 서정을 기술하는 방법적 수단으로 작품에 사용한다. 금속재료의 사용은 약간의 차이는 있으나 공업제품의 단편이나 일상적인 오브제를 사용한 점에서 이전의 누보레알리즘(Nouveau Réalisme)이나 네오다다(Neo Dada)와 같은 맥락에서 이해할 수 있다. 금속을 조각내어 접합하거나 부식시켜 현 시대의 공간으로 명하고, 이러한 공간에 현대미술의 다양한 표현기법인 오브제, 콜라주(Collage), 부식, 설치, 스테인 페인팅(stain painting), 컴바인페인팅(Cambine painting), 앗상블라주(Assmblage) 등을 이용해 현대인의 희로애락, 서정성 그리고 자아정체성의 의미전달을 시도하였다. 작품은 산업사회의 파생물인 금속을 적절히 작품에 사용하여 차갑게만 느낀 고정된 인식을 뒤로 한 채 또 다른 가치를 구현하고, 자연스럽고 모던한 추상미술로 거듭나고 완성된다. 예술가는 개인이면서도 집단의 일원이다. 개인으로서의 표현행위도 중요하지만 사회적 예술인으로서 또 다른 의무와 권리도 수행해야 한다. 이는 자유로운 표현행위, 감상자와 상호소통이 되는 작품, 시대상을 반영하는 작품의 필요성에 관한 것이다. 본인은 작업에 있어 표현양식과 이념을 통해 이 두 가지를 다 반영하고자 하였다. 본인의 이번 연작은 작가로서의 미감과 현대사회를 살아가는 한 인간으로서의 생각을 작품의 화면에 표현한 자문자답의 결과물이다.

All arts are the expression of the artists' actions and their situations. The visual art is to deliver emotions or sentimental messages through the visual gestures. The artists in different times and different cultures have showed their suffering of their time by making works of art. The messages of artists and the communication with viewers to understand and find the meanings of the works of art, particularly for the abstract art in the modern art. hereupon this, this thesis theorizes this conceptual consideration in the present situation and expresses it with art. The modern industrial society is based on the city life which is full of modern conveniences. The development of the modern civilization has caused inhumanity, extreme individualism, a sense of alienation and the emptiness of the spirit in the various aspects of life. Despite all of these problems, we have tried to find a new alternative and adapted to it. What is the position we have to choose in this modern society? I want to talk about the urban emotional expressions that we modern people feel through my works which consider the modern convenience and the pieces of city life as a new and beautiful creatures. In addition, the metal which is the proper symbol for the modern technological civilization society was used as a tool for describing the urban sentiments. The use of metal is a same category with Nouveau Réalisme and Neo Dada in which the pieces of industrial products and ordinary objects. The modern space was symbolized by joining or corroding metals. In this space, the feelings, sentiments and self-identity were expressed with the various expressional techniques such as Objet, Collage, corroding, installation, stain painting, Combine painting, Assmblage. The work was made of the metals which are the derivative of the industrial society. The cold fixed images of them were left behind and created the another value. The work finally was reborn and completed as a natural and modern abstract art.

The artist is an individual as well as a part of a group. The actions of expression are important, but they also have to purse the duty and right. This is about the free actions of expression, the work that can communicate with viewers and the necessity of reflecting the phrases of the times on the works of art. I tried to reflect both the expression styles and ideas on my works. This series of works are the results of monologue which expressed the ideas of mine on the canvas as an artist and an individual who lives on the modern society.
